The Vice President of Golden Boy Promotions, Eric Gomez, is still hoping to secure a major fight, sometime in the future, for Lucas Matthysse (37-4, 34KOs).

Earlier this month, Matthysse fought Viktor Postol for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title. Matthysse was a big favorite to win, but he was troubled by the style of Postol. In the end Matthysse was hit with a hard shot to the eye and went down for the full count of ten in the tenth.

The loss was a huge disappointment as it killed the possibility of an early 2016 showdown with Manny Pacquiao. The fight was very likely to happen, had Matthysse won. Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, traveled to Carson's StubHub Center to sit ringside with hope of Matthysee winning.

Rumors began to circulate a few weeks later, that Pacquiao-Matthysse was still being negotiated for early next year. Those rumors were nothing more than fabrications.

Pacquiao is still fighting in early 2016. The fight is being pushed as his final career outing before planned senate run in the Philippines. Anything can happen in boxing and politics. Pacquiao could lose the lection and choose to continue his career."

"A fight between Matthysse and Pacquiao is a permanent goal for our company, but it is still premature to talk about something like that, after the loss Lucas had against Viktor Postol. When Matthysse and Postol fought, Bob Arum was very interested in watching the fight, with the desire that Lucas would have a good showing and from there we would have started talking about a showdown between the two fighters in the early months of 2016," Gomez said to Fox Deportes.

"But the end result wasn't good for us and everything has cooled down for the moment. Nothing has been discarded [regarding those plans] and our desire is still to have Lucas get in the ring with Pacquiao in the future. But we're going to have to wait [for something like that to happen]."
