Gavin vs Woodhouse Argument To Be Settled on 7/16

By Terence Dooley

Birmingham’s Frankie Gavin makes the maiden defence of his newly won WBO Inter-Continental belt welterweight against Sheffield’s Curtis Woodhouse on Frank Warren’s world title bill at the ECHO Arena, Liverpool on July 16th.  A Gavin-Woodhouse fight seemed to be on the cards late last year only for Peter McDonagh to upset the applecart by handing Curtis a point’s defeat in October.

Woodhouse, though, posted a KO win over Billy Smith in April of this year.  He goes into the title tilt full of confidence after taking in Gavin’s sluggish decision victory over Young Mutley at the O2 Arena on Saturday night.

The former footballer pits his 15-2 (10) record against Gavin’s unblemished 10-0 (8) slate in a fight that is guaranteed to produce fireworks.  It joins Tony Bellew Commonwealth light-heavyweight rematch with Ovill McKenzie and Nicky Burns’ WBO super-featherweight defence against Nicky Cook on a big night in Liverpool, with prospects Joe Selkirk and Rocky Fielding providing further local support.
