The referee for the Sept. 14 junior-welterweight title fight between Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas will be Tony Weeks.
Weeks was selected at the Sept. 4 meeting of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
The other candidates to be the third man in the ring for that bout were Robert Byrd, Russell Mora and Jay Nady.
The judges, meanwhile, will be Robert Hoyle and Glenn Trowbridge of Nevada, and Jurgen Langos of Germany.
The other candidates to score that bout were Burt Clements, Richard Houck and Ricardo Ocasio of Nevada; Barry Druxman of California; and Ed Kugler of Colorado.
There were no objections to these names from either fighter’s camp.
Weeks has been the referee for one of Garcia’s fights, his fifth pro bout, a stoppage win of Guadalupe Diaz in 2008, according to BoxRec.com. That website does not list Weeks as having worked any of Matthysse’s fights.
Trowbridge has judged two of Garcia’s bouts, including a 100-90 scorecard for Garcia against Nate Campbell in 2011 and an 80-72 scorecard for Garcia against Humberto Tapia in 2009, according to BoxRec.com. He has not worked any of Matthysse’s bouts. Hoyle was a judge for Matthysse’s 2012 stoppage win over Olusegun Ajose and is not listed as having worked any of Garcia’s bouts. Langos has not been a judge for a bout featuring either boxer.
