Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has advised BoxingScene.com that his company placed a secondary hold on Los Angeles' Staples Center for the date of September 7th. If the deal gets finalized, the event would feature an explosive junior welterweight main event between WBC/WBA champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16KOs) and mandatory challenger Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32KOs).
The Staples Center was Schaefer's first choice to stage the above referenced September show.
Schaefer was surprised to read a report on BoxingScene, and other outlets, regarding the possibility of Top Rank staging an event, featuring Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., on September 7th at Staples.
When Schaefer spoke to Staples Center officials a month ago, he was advised the venue was unavailable due to a concert. In fact, he was told by AEG last week that September 7 was still unavailable at the venue.
If the concert got canceled or rescheduled, Schaefer indicates that Golden Boy already has hold for September 7th and will likely move forward if the date is indeed available.Tags: Lucas Matthysse , Danny Garcia , Garcia-Matthysse , Garcia vs. Matthysse
