World class trainer Robert Garcia appeared on Tuesday's edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show. Garcia trains fighters such as Nonito Donaire, Brandon Rios and Mikey Garcia, in addition to Antonio Margarito - the main topic of discussion during this interview.
Garcia said that he is glad that the controversy surrounding the venue of the fight has finally ended. He also revealed that he is happy the fight is happening in New York and that Margarito doesn't have any issues facing Cotto in New York which will be full of Cotto supporters given the Big Apple's sizable Puerto Rican population.
"He is willing to fight anywhere. He will fight basically in Cotto's hometown," stated Garcia. "Cotto says that he won't fight anywhere but New York so that shows you that he needs wants that advantage."
Garcia said that Margarito can't wait to get in the ring and prove that he defeated Cotto legitimately in their first meeting that took place in 2008. The Oxnard, California based trainer also said that Cotto has contradicted himself in regards to the Tijuana Tornado's punchng power.
"He said that Margarito had illegal wraps and then he tells Max Kellerman that Tony doesn't hit any harder than any other fighter so he is contradicting himself," Garcia told The Boxing Lab.
According to Garcia, beating Cotto in New York will make the victory even sweeter. The trainer said that he hopes that Cotto admits that Margarito is the better fighter and finally gives him his due when his fighter has his hand raised after the fight.
"I am happy that it is in New York. We signed up for the fight there two months ago. We want to beat him in his hometown. Hopefully he will give Margarito credit after this fight."
