The Manny Pacquiao sweepstakes continues to play out.
The Filipino superstar is returning to the ring, for what he says is the final time, on April 9th at the MGM arena in Las Vegas.
Several fighters are being considered. The two frontrunners are WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and WBO junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford.
At the moment, most industry insiders expect Pacquiao to select Bradley, who is now trained by Teddy Atlas.
Veteran trainer Robert Garcia is in that majority. He believes Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38KOs) is going to select Bradley (33-1-1, 13KOs) for a trilogy showdown.
Bradley won a controversial twelve round split decision the first time they fought in 2012. Pacquiao got revenge with a unanimous decision win in the 2014 rematch.
At 37-years-old, Pacquiao is starting to show his age. While Bradley looked like a new man when he knocked out Brandon Rios last month. Considering those factors, Garcia gives Bradley a good shot to pull off the victory in a third meeting.
"I'd say he's fighting Timothy Bradley for a third time. That's just my guess. I think Crawford is just too risky to end his career with maybe a loss - even though Bradley has a shot this time of beating him for real," Garcia explained.
"We all saw the first two fights and thought Pacquiao won, but this time with Teddy Atlas...Bradley looked different, Bradley looked motivated. He might have that extra push to pull it off. And Pacquiao might not be the same anymore, so this time Bradley has a better chance to pull it off."
