Veteran trainer Robert Garcia is looking forward to a potential fall showdown between middleweight world champions Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (47-1-1, 33KOs).

There are ongoing discussions between the two camps, with the sanctioning body setting down a purse bid on May 24th in Mexico City.

Garcia feels Canelo has the most trouble with slick boxers who incorporate speed. The Mexican superstar was dominated by Floyd Mayweather Jr. over twelve rounds in 2013 and then barely overcame Erislandy Lara to win a twelve round split decision in 2014. He even had trouble in the early rounds of his recent knockout victory over Amir Khan.

But Canelo does very well against fighters who are going to come after him, fighters who stand in front of him. Golovkin will not be hard to find, because the feared puncher will certainly go after Canelo with knockout intentions.

Garcia believes the style of Golovkin is far more suitable for Canelo, who seems very comfortable when he plays the role of a counter-puncher.

"I think Canelo and his trainer have done a great job. They have been together since Canelo was a kid," Garcia told BoxingScene.com.

"I think what they need to do is take care of his opponents and make sure that he doesn't fight one of those slick boxers, counter-punchers, and maybe just go against those guys who stand right in front of him and go out looking for a fight. That's what they should do."

"And who's out there? What other opponents are out there who would make sense for a big pay-per-view who are slick boxers. He already fought Lara, he already fought Mayweather, he already fought Khan. So who's out there [that makes sense for a big PPV fight]?"

"I think the fight that should happen, and will happen, is the fight against Triple G - and Triple G is not a boxer, so I think that will be a great fight. I never put money on any fight, and I never have and I don't think I ever will, but in this fight I have to go with the Mexican. I have to go with Canelo."
