Featherweight contender Yuriorkis Gamboa (20-0, 16KOs) is scheduled to return on September 10 in Atlantic City, with HBO televising. One possible candidate to face the talented Cuban is former champion Daniel Ponce De Leon (41-3, 34KOs). Ponce De Leon was last seen in February, when he lost a close ten round decision to Adrien Broner at super featherweight.
Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who promotes Gamboa, advised BoxingScene.com that his company has already discussed the possibility of Gamboa-Ponce De Leon with Golden Boy Promotions. Arum is trying to secure enough money from HBO to make the fight possible.
"Yes. We're considering it for Sept. 10 in Atlantic City. We've talked with Golden Boy, and they're amenable to making the fight with Ponce De Leon, now we're talking to HBO to make sure that we have the necessary funds to do the fight," Arum told BoxingScene.com.
