| Gamboa vs Martinez in The Works For a February Clash?
|
|
By Ryan Burton Talks of a January 28th showdown between WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios and former featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa have recently surfaced on various media outlets. BoxingScene.com has been advised that plans for Gamboa to take a fight at 130 pounds before a clash with Rios are also still an option. Before the Gamboa fight can happen, Rios must first defeat John Murray on December 3rd in New York on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito pay-per-view event. In the event Rios suffers an injury, gets cut, or for any other reason can't get ready for such a fast turn around, then Gamboa may face former super featherweight champion Roman "Rocky" Martinez at 130 pounds before facing Rios. Our sources have indicated that Martinez is already in the gym training and is intrigued with the fight. If the fight gets finalized it will be set for a date in February.
He has and should continue to do so. There are plenty of fights for Rios to do at 135/140.
Gamboa is a huge fight, he would be a fool to turn it down. |

Rios will annihilate Gamboa if those two fight, and I'm a big proponent of Gamboa.
I'll bet big points on Rios if that fight comes off. |
Hasn't Rios been doing that? And, wasn't he about to move up in weight before Oner said they want to face Rios?
Wow, he really is moving up. I thought Lopez or Garcia would be next. Awesome stuff, I think Gamboa has dead even chance at beating Rios. |
