Mexico's Gamaliel "Platano" Diaz has confirmed that his first defense of the World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight title will take place on a March date in Japan. Diaz pulled off one of the biggest upsets of 2012 with a huge victory on October 27 to dethrone Takahiro Aoh of the WBC crown.

The victory gave Japanese promoter Teiken two future options on Diaz (37-9-2, 17KOs). On Monday, Mexican promoter Fausto Daniel Garcia and Teiken will have a conference call to finalize Diaz's opponent. There are two Japanese opponents being considered.
