Froch-Groves II: 60,000 Tix Gone In First Hour of Sales

By Terence Dooley

Carl Froch and George Groves's combined pulling power has resulted in the sale of 60,000 tickets for their May 31st rematch at Wembley Stadium.  The 60,000 tickets were put on general sale earlier today only to sell out within an hour, leaving thousands of fans disappointed.  The stadium has a capacity of 90,000, so there should be extra tickets available down the line.

Eddie Hearn, the show's promoter, hopes to release another 20,000 tickets once he has spoken with Transport for London.  The fight has already rocketed past Ricky Hatton's 56,000 return for his fight with Juan Lazcano at the City of Manchester stadium in May 2008—it will swell to an even greater figure once the extra tickets go on sale.

Froch, 32-2 (23), stopped Groves in the ninth-round at Manchester's Phones 4U Arena in November.  Groves, 19-1 (15), argued that referee Howard Foster had jumped in prematurely, a claim that was backed by the IBF, who ordered a rematch, but was ignored by the BBBoC when the 25-year-old tried to have the result turned into a No Contest.  Froch, 36, will put his WBA and IBF titles on the line in May as both boxers bid to draw a line under their rivalry with a clean win and a less divisive result.
