Fred Evans Moves Forward, Enters The Final 16

Olympic silver medallist Fred Evans pulled off an impressive win over tough Georgian Zaal Kvachatadze to reach the last 16 of the welterweight division at the World Championships in Almaty.

Evans repelled his opponent's advances in the opening round then stepped up to claim a clear victory with a solid display of counter-punching.

There was also a fine win for Scottish light-heavyweight Scott Forrest, who beat Denmark's Martin Pedersen via unanimous decision.

But Welsh lightweight Joe Cordina exited the tournament with a tough defeat to quality Cuban Lazaro Estrada.

Belfast lightweight Sean McComb booked his place in the last 16 with a comprehensive points win over Gildas Bangana of the Central African Republic.

And Ireland team-mate Joe Ward also went through with an impressive unanimous win over tough Pole Mateusz Tryc in the light-heavyweight class.
