Randy Caballero, who lost his IBF bantamweight title on the scales on the eve of his November 21st defense against Lee Haskins, has his next fight scheduled to begin his 2016 campaign.

Frankie Gomez shut out Jorge Silva over the course of 10 rounds, winning in his first appearance in the ring in nearly 15 months. Gomez, a 23-year-old prospect, was supposed to have fought this past May in a prime spot on the HBO undercard to the Canelo Alvarez vs. James Kirkland broadcast, a show that also included the re-airing of Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao. But while an impressive average audience of more than 2.1 million people tuned in that night, none of them got to see Gomez take on Humberto Soto. That’s because Gomez, after having the weight limit pushed back from 141 pounds to 145, still came in at 147.5. The fight got called off.

All fighters have made weight for Friday's installment of Golden Boy Promotions 'Boxeo Estelar' series live from Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. Headlining the show, unbeaten featherweight Joseph 'JoJo' Diaz faces Ruben Tamayo. Both fighters weighed 125.6 lbs for the scheduled 10 round bout.

LOS ANGELES - 2012 U.S. Olympian and undefeated top prospect Joseph "Jojo" Diaz Jr. (17-0, 10 KOs) and Frankie "Pitbull" Gomez (18-0, 13 KOs), 2009 U.S. Amateur Champion and 2009 WorldChampionship Silver Medalist, hosted a Los Angeles media workout today ahead of their respective bouts this Friday, Oct. 23 live on Estrella TV's Boxeo Estelar from Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif.

LOS ANGELES - Another night full of boxing will hit the Coachella Valley on October 23 from the famed Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and live on Estrella TV's Boxeo Estelar. Headlining the event, undefeated featherweight sensation Joseph "JoJo" Diaz Jr. (17-0, 10 KOs) will battle against Mexican brawler, Ruben "Canelito" Tamayo (23-6-4, 15 KOs) in the 10-round featherweight bout. Joining the action packed night, International Hall of Fame Boxer Michael "Jinx" Spinks will host a special meet and greet at the Special Events Arena from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Fans with tickets to the event will be able to meet the 1976 Olympic medalist and former two division world champion, before televised fights.

Tuesday day afternoon was media day for Miguel Cotto at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood. As the Puerto Rican star prepared to meet the press, you saw Frankie Gomez winding down his days work on the stationary bike. 'the Pitbull' was scheduled to face Humberto Soto as the co-main on HBO on May 9th underneath Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez but essentially missed weight by a whole weight class as he came in at just a shade over 147 pounds. The contracted weight for that match-up was 141 pounds. The fight was eventually scrapped leaving both HBO and Golden Boy Promotions non-plussed.

After not coming anywhere near the contracted weight for his scheduled bout against Humberto Soto on May 9th at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Frankie Gomez was in the doghouse with Golden Boy Promotions, HBO (which was set to televise his network debut on that night as the co-feature to Saul Alvarez-James Kirkland) and trainer Freddie Roach. But in the past week or so, he has gotten back in the good graces with Roach.

Trainer Freddie Roach had groused in the past that his junior welterweight prospect Frankie Gomez, for all his talent, simply didn't spend enough time in the gym in-between fights. Things came to a head last weekend as he failed to come anywhere near the 141-pound weight limit for his HBO debut against veteran Humberto Soto. As he tipped the scales at just over 147-pounds, his fight was eventually scrapped. "He needs to be here every day and if he does what fighters are supposed to do, I have no problem,"s aid Roach on Monday morning to BoxingScene.com. "He's a great prospect, I think he's the best prospect in the gym and a future world champion but he just needs a little more discipline."

You can add the namesake of Golden Boy Promotions to the list of executives disappointed in junior-welterweight prospect Frankie Gomez for coming in tremendously overweight and having his bout with Humberto Soto canceled this past Saturday on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs. James Kirkland. Gomez-Soto was supposed to be the televised co-feature and was also to be preceded by the HBO replay of Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao. But he said he fell sick two weeks ago. Golden Boy vice president Eric Gomez said Frankie Gomez didn’t inform them until the week of the fight. The weight limit was raised from 141 to 145, and still Frankie Gomez came in at 147.5.

Humberto Soto trained to make weight for his fight with Frankie Gomez, only to have that fight be called off when Gomez came in overweight. Gomez was 6.5 pounds over the original contractual limit of 141, 2.5 pounds over a new limit the camps had agreed upon after Gomez had informed them that he would not be making weight. That means no fight for Soto. Fortunately for him, he will get at get some money. “Humberto’s got money already. We gave him an advance,” said Eric Gomez, the vice president and head matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions. He would not disclose how much Soto got paid and would be allowed to keep.
