Looks like unbeaten Frankie Gomez will return to the ring on November 10th at Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez told BoxingScene.com.
Gomez is scheduled to return against an opponent to be determined in a bout that will more than likely be scheduled for six or eight rounds.
If the fight goes through as Gomez expects, it will be the first time in almost a year that Gomez (12-0, 9 KOs) would have fought. Gomez knocked out James Hope in the third round at the Honda Center in Anaheim on December 3rd.
One of the reasons Gomez may have not fought during this time period was to address legal issues earlier this year, when he was arrested twice in last January.
According to a January 26th article by Boxingscenes Jake Donovan, Gomez was arrested during a traffic stop from an outstanding warrant from a narcotics possession charge. Four days prior to the January 25th arrest, Gomez was arrested on three separate misdemeanor charges stemming from petty theft to failing to appear in court due to traffic violations.
Prior to his legal troubles, Gomez, who hails from East Los Angeles, has fought mostly at the junior welterweight limit, but has fought as low as 136 pounds. However, Gomez had made statements that he wanted to fight at the lightweight or even the super featherweight limit.
However, no word yet if Gomez would still fight at that weight or remain at 140 pounds.
The 20 year old amateur standout is currently training at the Wild Card Boxing Gym in Hollywood, CA.
No word if Gomezs fight will be televised on Showtime Extreme.
