Frankie Gomez Injured, Withdraws From July 20 Card

By Francisco Salazar

Unbeaten junior welterweight Frankie Gomez is off of the July 20th card in Indio, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez told Boxingscene.com on Thursday afternoon.

According to Eric Gomez, Frankie Gomez suffered an injury to his leg during training, forcing him to withdraw from the card.

“We have to wait for a doctor’s report and see where he goes from here,” said Eric Gomez.

Frankie Gomez was to face his most challenging fight to date in former world title holder DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley.

Eric Gomez told Boxingscene.com that the co-feature bout between Randy Caballero and Miguel Robles will be elevated to main event status.

Gomez also confirmed unbeaten prospect Joseph Diaz, Jr. has been added to the card.

The Golden Boy Promotions card will take place at the Fantasy Springs Casino Resort in Indio. The card will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
