The early boxing scheduled for 2016 is a bit barren in terms of anticipated match-ups. One fight that would pique the interest of fans is a potential fight between WBC 130-pound titlist Francisco Vargas and former two-time champion Orlando Salido.

This pairing looks to be a fan-friendly fight.

Sean Gibbons, who advises 'Siri' Salido tells BoxingScene.com - "When you're a WBC champion you want the biggest and best fights, the ones you can make, and if you want to make a real name for yourself, well, you've beat up (Takashi) Miura - try and beat Salido. If you want to attract your base audience- and that's the Mexicans - that fight at the StubHub Center. I'm telling you, it's (Israel)Vazquez-(Rafael)Marquez trilogy written all over it.

"You've got two guys made for each other. They hit just hard enough to get each others attention but they're busy dudes and they're throwing bombs but neither guy's a big puncher but they're volume punchers and they're exciting fighters."

Vargas (23-0-1, 17KOs), who won the title versus Miura in what was widely considered the 2015 'fight of the year' on the Saul Alvarez-Miguel Cotto undercard on November 21st is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, who says they are sifting through various options.

"It's a possibility but there's other guys out there we're looking at," said GBP Vice President Eric Gomez on Tuesday morning.

"There's (Yuriorkis) Gamboa that's available, there's the rematch with the Japanese guy. So there's a possibility of any of those guys, obviously it depends on the deal. But right now we're trying to secure a date and once we secure a date we can start working on it."

According to Gomez,"HBO has a lot of interest in the fight and they know it would be a terrific fight with any of those guys."

To Gibbons Vargas-Salido is a can't-miss proposition.

"That's Mexican-versus-Mexican, that's Olympic Auditorium, that's what L.A. was made on. That's what the L.A. fight fans thrive on."
