WBC super featherweight world champion Francisco 'Bandito' Vargas (23-0-1, 17KOs) is very interested in a possible fight with former champion and countryman Orlando Salido (43-13-3, 30KOs).

Salido has been out of the ring since his disputed twelve round draw with WBO champion Roman Martinez last September. They were heading into a trilogy fight, but then the WBO ordered Martinez to make a mandatory defense against Miguel Berchelt.

Vargas took part in the Fight of The Year last November with Takashi Miura. He got up from the deck and knocked out Mirua in the ninth round to capture the WBC belt.

Salido has taken part in a few interviews where he called for a fight with Vargas in an all-Mexican battle.

Vargas says Salido is just an option, but there are several other options that are being floated out there. He says his next fight is possibly going to take place in May, either on the Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan undercard or as the headliner on another show later in that month.

"He is a warrior a fighter who has faced the best, but for now he's just an option," Vargas told ESPN Deportes.

"I'm still waiting for information about my next fight. I know that Salido is a option, for now everything being said out there is hearsay. But if the fight happens, we're here. I want to fight the best. I think Salido is a fight of high risk, he is very experienced, has fought the best in the division and it would be a good challenge. If it happens, the fight would be great because of our styles. We would be two Mexican warriors in the ring."

"I'm told that my next fight could be in May, either on Canelo's card on May 7 or a later show where I would be the headliner."
