WBA world featherweight champion Carl Frampton (23-0, 14KOs) wants his rematch against Leo Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18KOs) to take place in December.
The 29-year-old undefeated Belfast man took the WBA title from Santa Cruz with a twelve round war on July 30th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Immediately after that contest, it was revealed that Santa Cruz had a rematch clause and he was exercising his option to face Frampton for a second time - and Frampton had no issue with taking him on again.
Santa Cruz believes he won their first fight. Frampton had previously said he would love to take on Santa Cruz in front of a Belfast audience, but accepted the rematch was more likely to be in the United States once again.
It will be interesting to see where the fight ends up, but Las Vegas has been rumored as a frontrunner to host the contest. Santa Cruz refuses to face Frampton for a second time at Barclays - believing the location is more favorable to the Irish fighter, and Frampton won't face Santa Cruz in his backyard of Los Angeles, California.
"It is the fight people are talking about and potentially it is going to be the next one for me. There is to be a meeting next week," said Frampton. "Santa Cruz is the fight I am keen for and I feel I can beat him anywhere in the world."
"America is the most likely destination. If it had been the summer we could have done outdoors in Belfast, but Windsor Park in December is not going to work. I would like to have the fight before Christmas because I have not had Christmas off since I turned pro and I would like to spend it with my kids."
