Rocky Marciano vs Archie Moore, the Rocks last fight

What is your intake on this fight? Mine is that when Moore dropped Marciano, it was a flash knockdown. Moore did good in the first 3 rounds, but after that the Rock just overwhelmed him and KO'd him in the 9th. Marciano had Moore beat in the 8th, and finished his work in the 9th. Marciano enteing the ring with 48 wins 0 lost 0 draws and 42 knock outs added his final win/KO to his undefeated record for the last time in history. So if youve seen/ heard about the fight please responed.

I got to rewatch the fight but if i remember it was a lucky shot that caught him....not necessarily a slip but more of a shot that caught him and he had fallen down...This fight however is arguabley Marciano's worst fight..He didn't train very much for this fight (in comparison to his other fights..)...By this time he had lost his passion for fighting....

Marciano more then made up for his knockdown though because he pummeled more knocking him down multiple times...Moore was a good journeyman and a superb LHW but the rock beat him mercilessly...

I would disagree with you there and say that Marciano's fight with Lee Savold was his worst. Rocky had flu for this fight and it showed in Marciano's weakened snap in his punchers.

The Marciano/Savold fight is up on YouTube for those interested, and yes, I'd agree with Stinger's opinion when he states that was Marciano's worst performance of his career...Well, either that fight or possibly the one against ****ell could earn that distinction.

In Skeehan's bio on Marciano it says as such in regards to the fight with Savold;

"It was Rocky's cumsiest fight since amateur days. He was in constant pursuit of Savold and rarely stopped punching, but he had not had a fight in almost four months and few had ever seen him as awkward. He missed punches by feet instead of inches, and even when he landed a solid blow the power seemed to be missing."

Of course, much of that may be attributed to Stinger's mention of Marciano having the flu, which is also talked about in the same book.

I'm getting rusty lately...lol

actually now looking at it, next to the Savold fight...actually maybe worse then the Savold fight was the fight against LaStarza (first one)....because he almost killed Carmine Vingo, rocky felt guilty and in turn held back against LaStarza...and also was in the hospital and Church constantly hoping for Vingo's well being and didn't get to train as much as he was normally...

archie moore in his prime was a great fighter unfortuantely the only videos people see of him arte his losses to marciano and ali he was past his prime for the marciano fight and just plane old against ali

You want to see real Moore you need to see his fight against Joey Maxim for the LHW title....good fight...
