Yeah I have heard that to, someone explained it as when you have just a top mouthguard in, your jaw has too much movement, which when hit, makes more of an impact contributing to concussion. With the double mouthguard in, your jaw is more clenched, supposedly decreasing the amount of shock transferred through your head...I am unsure of this fact as I have never worn one
