  • Will Floyd Ever Fight at 140 Again?

I think that most people agree that 140 is Floyd's best weight and alot of people, including myself saw it as Floyd will again fight at 140 but now I dont think so.

I think the Oscar fight will happened at 154 and after that he may have another fight at 154 but will probally have his next fight at 147. By that time he will be 4 fights removed from 140 and I think his body wouldve filled out by then and the one fight at 154 would speed up that process because after he fights Oscar at 154 then 147 wont seem that big anymore.

He will be older by that time and pretty much everyone will be at 147. Hatton may have a fight or 2 at 140 then he will be at 47 for good, Cotto will soon be at 47, Castillo is saying that he might jump straight to 47, Chico is tall and wont stay at 40 if no one's there, and then you also have guys who are already there like Margarito, Callazo, Zab, and great young talent like Williams and Julio.

As of right now, 140 is Floyd's best weight but by time he fights Oscar and somone at 147 then I think that will be his best weight and he wouldve filled into it. It kind of sucks that alot of the fights we wanted to see at 140 will probally happened at 147 but by time they happened, all the guys should be pretty filled into the weight by then or atleast close to it and it seems as if its a weight that all the fighters can stay at for years and could go down as one of the greatest divisions in the history of boxing.

I mean, look at all the guys I just named and that doesnt even count guys like Mosley & Forrest who say that may come back down. What are you guys thoughts on what I just said and do you guys think it "could" be a All Time great division? I mean alot of times the top guys dont fight eachother anymore but this time it will be different because alot of the guys will be in there primes and the others will be close to wanting big fights and the young guys like Williams & Julio seem so fearless that they would fight guys right now. I think you will see alot of big fights. Even a guy like Vivian Harris with his height can jump back into the mix at 147

I agree. I don't think we'll ever see Floyd Mayweather fight at 140lbs. again. With that said, I don't think he'll come in at 154lbs. for the De La Hoya fight. He'll have to go into the fight seeing speed as his main advantage and bulking up will only slow him down. In my opinion, Oscar's style doesn't call for him to be ready for a very physical phone booth tight fight where he'll have to constantly keep De La Hoya off of him, because Oscar doesn't impose his physical strength on his opponents. I think he'll go back down to 147lbs. after the De La Hoya fight..win, lose, or draw.....well, not draw.

it can be a great division, but you forgot to mention fighters from jr. featherweight to jr.lightweight are already facing each other and have been for a couple of years. if the jr. welterweight and welterweights could do this it would be great.

also you forgot to add andre berto to the list of young prospects in the welterweight division.

but for the welterweight to go down as one of the greatest division a few things need to happend, first as you said they have to fight each other, then they have to prove to be competitive enough with each other as the round robin goes on and that no one loses to a relative hungry unknown fighter.

lets remember in a matter of 2 fights the welterweight division went to nothing to back to somthing.

i forgot to add i belive floyds best weight class is 130. Castillo at 135 showed us he defeated mayweather and showed us how to defeat him. 140 really proved nothing as he never fought hatton, and 147 he has yet to fight a real welterweight.

I like how people who always talk about the controversy of that fight or how they felt Castillo was robbed seem to forget the more recent fight those two had where Mayweather did 'em.

view their second fight again, it was extremly close too, i had aggred that mayweather clearly beat castillo second time around, untill a poster here advised us to see the fight again and he was so right, the fight was a close fight too

I still think that was at a bad time in Floyd's career. He lost his father after the Chico fight and had 5 average fights after that where he was trying to convert over to his Uncle's style which is to be more offensive. The N'Dou fight is when Floyd finaly converted. If he had those 5 fights back, he wouldve easily stopped Chaves, Hernandez, Sosa, and I think he wouldve beat Castillo fairly easy.

Floyd was so scared to stay on the offensive back then and now he fights his whole fight offensivley. If he fought Castillo the way he fights now, it would look totally different. He wouldnt be running from him the whole fight and punching off his back foot. Thats why he loves his Uncle now because he knows he is a much better offensive fighter and is much more exciting.

Castillo is a great fighter but he caught Floyd at a perfect time in his career

Well I will tell you to go back and watch the fight again. I have it on tape and really, if Castillo doesnt hold then he probally didnt even hit Floyd 10 times the whole fight. The only time he ever got a punch in was when he held Floyd at hit. Without that he never hit him and even Castillo admits that Floyd won that fight so dont try to spin it
