  • How many boxers were at their primes after turning 35?

    The questions is simple.

All I can think of is Mayweather. Sergio Martinez maybe? but probably was not prime anymore after turning 37. He was 35 when he beat Pavlik and Williams.

Many ATG had more losses than victories after turning 34/35.

Which means that if Golovkin is beaten in the next years a few times doesn't mean he wasn't an ATG. Just means he was old. Look at every ATG's resume and show me how many were still beating everyone after turning 35.

Bhop, Moore, Wlad...I am using the terminology prime. Not absolute peak but they were still in their primes.

Martinez started to slip physically just before the jr fight but had one last great performance in him. May hasn't slipped physically yet and may still be in his prime (not peak ofc).

Wlad I still don't think has slipped. He got beat by a guy who outsized him and he will now get beat by a guy who is more active, younger and hits harder. Outside of Fury and AJ, Wlad beats every other heavy on the planet.

Floyd Mayweather's prime was long before he turned 35, at 35 he was still good enough to beat the guys he beat but it definitley wasn't the best version of himself, I can't think of anyone who started boxing as a young child, fought both all his amateur and pro career at the highest level and still was in his prime at the age of 35.

GGG hasn't been fighting real competition as a pro for too long, which brings me to the next point, you don't become an ATG with that bad a resume in boxing, maybe in the 1910s or something where GGG's resume would've been unprecedented, but not after all these great fighters have been raising the bar throughout the years. No way possible. If he beats someone for real in his mid to late 30s though then of course he deserves some extra credit, but if GGG loses now or retires, there's no way in hell he's an atg, one of the top 10 MWs I've seen no doubt, but noway an ATG.

i dunno man, im as big a fan of golovkin as anyone but the next couple of years are going to define him really. IN some ways hes only got himself and his promoters to blame cause he ****ed about so much early on in his pro years when he should have been moved on a lot quicker. He needs to make some serious moves in the next couple of years to be an ATG.

Ok I knew you would say Bhop... but he got beat five times after turning 35. Not the best example I'm looking for.

Wlad was a cheater, that's the only way he managed to win at an old age. Fouling all the time. He got beaten by Fury who many woudln't even consider a top3 HW before that fight.

Archie Moore is a good example.

I don't blame him in any way. He made a lot of concessions. Some american public did not support him and that made his path a little difficult, but still the guy made enough millions to feed his family way better than any of us. And to a lot of boxing fans, he showed us how great he was. Everytime a top Mw refused to fight him or asked for unreasonable money, it tells you something.
I don't care if ******s can't see how good he is.
But I know that if being old he loses some fights, some of the haters will say: "Exposed", "he was a bum all this time", etc. Which is ridiculous.

I don't expect in his following years to see him as good as he was when he was 30 years old. But I hope he still has three or four good fights. Specially doing VADA, which shows how great person he is. Because many others take the WBO route to avoid VADA... With PEDs it's easier to look good after 35.

Ok, so even Mayweather was not prime after turning 35. Anyway, Mayweather never did VADA testing and was very suspect of PED use, because after turning 32 years old he put on more muscle than ever. At 38 he was more muscular than at 30. When he came back for the Marquez fight, he was big and his veins were big too.

yeah i dont think he should be too shot though at least till hes 37, in my mind thats the age when i start thinking yeah this guy could get old overnight. But i think reality of it is that he needs some real good wins in next couple of years and he needs to hurry his ass up to get them, cause the clock is ticking, basically wasted 2016. Thats why i say he should forget about canelo and just go straight up to 168.

only real one is bhop and not even that.. no one is at their prime at that age its just proper opponents. I still get schooled by legends in sparring but it dont mean if it was a real fight I woudnt lay them out cause they still get hurt.
