The welfare checks have run dry for Santa Cruz, time to face the music.

Mares clears out the trash with a solid UD.

I think Santa Cruz outworks Mares for a close but clear decision. Mares has been looking really average against worse fighters than Leo.

I'm definitely rooting for Mares, though.

I like both guys and I think this fight will be entertaining, but I don't think Mares is quite the same fighter that he was before the Gonzalez fight. I just believe Leo's pressure and work rate will eventually overwhelm Mares. Leo by late stoppage.

Imagine if Mares wouldve dropped back down to 122 (his natural weight) after beating PDL & Santa Cruz was still at 122 (his natural weight) this fight could have been ppv worthy (with a decent undercard) but now we have fighters rushed to stardom & peaked way to quick fighting on espn. Dont get me wrong, im going to be watching the fight drinking bud light in a michelada cup eating some carne like most chicanos but this fight lost something in my eyes. Terrible management imo. Wont be surprised if its a controversial decision for LSC or a draw.
