RJJ explainin y no fights wiv Collins/Calz/Eubs, & he'd go 2 England but not Germany!

Last Updated: Thursday, 24 September 1998, 13:36 GMT 14:36 UK

    Jones weighs up his options

Roy Jones Jr took time out to speak to BBC Sport Online about potential fights with Steve Collins and Joe Calzaghe, as well as revealing that he was willing to fight in the UK against Chris Eubank if Eubank managed to capture the world title again.

Collins claimed recently that a fight with Jones was almost a done deal, which is news to Jones and his people.

"Collins must be in a world of his own. My man doesn't know what Collins is talking about, my man Murad Muhammad. Stanley Levin, who manages Roy Jones, doesn't know he's talking about and neither does Roy Jones. Fact is, Collins was offered the fight by HBO but priced himself out. He wanted fantasy money," ranted Jones.

Jones admitted that Joe Calzaghe was a threat, but the Welshman would have to become more popular first before stepping into the ring with him.

"Calzaghe is a danger, he's a left-handed stinger with a lot of pop in his left hand. What he needs to do is build his rep in America first because Roy wouldn't want to fight him for peanuts.

"Calzaghe's fast-handed, he's more talented than Collins and I think he'd of wiped the floor with him," raved Jones.

    And Chris Eubank?

"If he won any of his last three fights then I would of probably gone over to England and fought him, because he'd be giving me something to fight for.

"I know Eubank generates a lot of money in England. But I'd of wanted to leave England with a belt in my possession, not just a pay cheque. It would be the pea**** strut versus the chicken moves.

"If he can somehow be made the WBO number one at light-heavyweight and beat the German (Dariusz Michalczewski), then I'd happily go to England to fight him and I'm sure we'd put on a great show for the fans."

Pound-for-pounder Roy Jones, who has an almost morbid fear of fighting
outside the US, has said he is willing to defend his WBC, WBA, IBF and IBO
light-heavyweight titles in England against Briton Clinton Woods, but not in
Germany against WBO rival Dariusz Michalczewski.

The Florida-born mega-talent has never fought outside America in his 45
fight career, fearing a repeat of the nationalistic bias which saw him
robbed blind in the Seoul Olympics final in 1988 and it remains a sticking
point to a mouth-watering clash with WBO rival Michalczewski. Jones has
always insisted that if foreign fighters want an opportunity, they must come
    to the US.

However, it seems Jones is willing to travel to England to fight
British-born WBC No.1 contender Clinton Woods. The Sheffield born Brit
fights WBC No.2 Yawe Davis in his hometown on July 27, and the winner should
receive a title shot within 90 days. Woods’ manager, Dennis Hobson told
SecondsOut that Jones had expressed a desire to fight in England.

“I’ve travelled to America a few times trying to sort Clinton’s position in
the WBC out. I’ve met with Jones and his people and with Bob Arum (who is
now guiding Jones’ career) and they said they’d have no problem fighting in
England if Clinton becomes the mandatory challenger. They said they did have
a problem with going to Germany (to face Michalczewski), but not England.”

As for those who dismiss the former undefeated British, European and
Commonwealth champion as another unworthy challenger for Jones, Hobson said:
“Clinton did commentary on Roy’s last bout (Derrick Harmon) and said that
Jones can’t hurt him. Jones is talented but can’t hurt light-heavyweights.
This won’t be another Julius Francis v Mike Tyson, Clinton is confident that
he can go the distance with Jones and possibly out-work the older man.”

by the way the first article was from sept 1998 & the second article july 2001

      some more stuff 4 u-

RJJ expainin why Eubank would of stopped Thompson if the referee & doctor gave him one more round- "When a rooster's got one eye, he becomes dangerous, because he knows every lick could be his last lick. So he puts everything he's got into that lick. Same with boxing. Every punch from a man with one eye is going to have kill in it",

& talkin about a Collins fight- "If he comes right on, he's made for me. I can fight for three minutes of each round if I have to, so keep on coming and I'll have a field day. I admit that I fear fighting Collins, I fear permanently injuring him!"

      lol!

Have you ever watched any Sven Ottke fights, or Darius' fights with Ricahrd Hall?

If so, you wouldn't be spamming with your biased agenda again.

America is where the money and better fighters are at. The fact guys like Darius and Calzaghe hid in their back yards for so long speaks for itself.
