Default Wilfredo Gomez on Pac...

Is there anyone in the fight game that you are a fan of? Who would Wilfredo Gomez pay to go see?

WG: Without a shadow of a doubt, Manny Pacquiao. That kid is something else. I wish he would have been around when I was fighting. I would have loved to have fought him, and I believe I could have beaten him, too.

WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT THAT?

Nah! Gomez is dreaming and just trying to lift his own chair. No way does he beat pac with his skills.

Easy dude...last time I heard that Gomez holds a record of KO wins while defending his crown for 15+(?) consecutive times! That's pretty sick!

I'd pick Gomez over Pacquiao. Gomez was a baddass fighter.

Gomez defended his SuperBantamweight title more times and in more cities than any champion of that weight class in history, including defenses against Royal Kobayashi in Japan and Saked Pitchyindee in Thailand. I think he's just one behind Eusebio Pedroza in racking up the most number of successful title defenses at 18 (to Eusebio's 19).

Wilfredo had it all. He won his first of three titles in an equal number of weight classes, when he managed to rise from a first round KD to knock out (in the 12th of a scheduled 15 rounder) Dong Kyun Yum in just his 16th pro fight. He was some four months short of turning 21 years old.

He suffered only three defeats and one draw in a career that spanned 48 fights. Two of those defeats were in the hands of Hall of Famers: Salvador Sanchez and Azumah Nelson. And, those two defeats were at Featherweight. His only other defeat was to Alfredo Lane, when they fought for the WBA Jr. Lightweight crown. His three defeats were the only times when he was stopped. He never lost a decision.

In his 44 wins, Gomez registered 42 stoppages. One of the best KO ratios in history. Among his KO/TKO victims is Carlos Zarate (TKO5) who was lording it over the Bantamweights. Only Rocky Lockridge and Juan LaPorte managed to go the distance. Both fights were at Featherweight. Anyone who seeks to add to his/her list of exciting matches ought to include these two fights. As well as the one against Lope Pintor (Gomez won, TKO14)

Gomez never lost a single fight at SuperBantam. Many consider him the greatest SuperBantam ever. Among those many, is The Ring.

Yeah, I got that fight. Sanchez beat him with ease, Sanchez is an all-time great no shame there. But take a look at Gomez v. Pintor that is a war. After the Pintor fight I became a fan of Gomez and Pintor, Gomez had a sneaky, fast, right hand. I would have like to have seen Morales v. Gomez that would have been war or Barrera v. Gomez.

Good collection there. Shows you know your fights.

Edit: Just noticed... It seems that you're rather new here. So, I say, "Welcome to BoxingScene!"
