Legendary producer Jay Dee of late '90's Detroit rap trio Slum Village has just passed.
Jay-Dee has produced such classics as "The Light" by Common, "Stakes is High" by De La Soul, Woo Hahh (remix) by Busta Rhymes feat. ODB and countless others.
He has also produced originals and remixes over the last 12 years for artists such as D' Angelo, Janet jackson, The Pharcyde, a Tribe Called Quest and many many others.
Jay Dee recently released an all instrumental album titled "Donuts" on indie hip-hop label Stones Throw.
Not long ago, Jay Dee answered a few rumors in XXL:
"I went overseas for two weeks and was eatin' all this crazy-ass food. As soon as I got back, I had the flu or something, and I had to check myself into the hospital. Then they (doctors) [found] out I had a ruptured kidney and was malnourished from not eatin' the right kinda food. It was real simple, but it ended with me being in the hospital."
Jay Dee passed around 8:00 this morning at his home in California. James (J-Dilla) Yancey will forever be remembered as one of the greatest producers in Hip-Hop.

Legendary producer Jay Dee died Friday of complications from lupus, his manager said. He was 32.
Jay Dee aka J Illa had been living with his mother in Los Angeles since being diagnosed with the immune system disease about three years ago, said his manager, Timothy Maynor.
His most recent CD, the instrumental "Donuts," was released Tuesday. He had also finished recording a compilation album called "Welcome To Detroit, Vol. 2" that will be released.
Although his joints hurt, his kidneys had been weakened and he had appeared sickly recently, Maynor said Dilla remained in good spirits. He had been on dialysis for about two years when his mother found him unresponsive in his room Friday morning.
"He was optimistic about working on future projects and doing future shows," Maynor told The Associated Press. "We went over to Europe in December (to tour). He was sickly but at the same time, he wanted to be there. I told him, I'm prepared to carry you, if I have to carry you down stairs and put you on stage."
Lupus is a disease in which a person's immune system goes into overdrive and attacks the body's normal, healthy cells.
