Post Comments Thread For: “Fighting Words” — No Surprise if Broner Beats Paulie

by David P. Greisman - You need only attend a few undercards to recognize that most matchmaking isn’t primarily for the fans’ enjoyment — largely it is for the preliminary fighters to get experience so that the promoters can eventually be enriched.

This is why it’s no surprise that so many fans shell out upwards of hundreds or even thousands of dollars for tickets but will not be in their seats until later in the show. They have been conditioned to skip out on the mismatches, as prospects (some of whom are suspect) do what is expected, padding their records, applying what they have been working on in the gym, picking up paychecks and then stepping up ever so slightly in competition their next time out.

That approach is often extended to the co-feature and main event.

Rare is the bout without a clear favorite. That’s because a promoter will only risk his investment if he has to, or if he has contracts with both combatants and can foresee profit no matter the winner.

That’s why we shouldn’t be surprised if Adrien Broner beats Paulie Malignaggi this coming Saturday in a match that will see the 23-year-old lightweight titleholder make his debut in the welterweight division. [Click Here To Read More]

Paulie is going to surprise people in this fight. He will probably lose, but its not going to be a blow out.

Cherry picking an easy belt from an aging, regressing fighter. Paulie looked like sh*t vs cano. Paulies best attributes speed, reflexes, legs are all declining. And lets not act like broner is some small dude look how big he is compared to welters alexander and maidana:

boring fight....broner should fight either Mathysse or Maidana at 140 instead of fighting a soft puncher in Malignaggi,,,,

So we are now praising people for fighting the easiest possible belt holder in a division? Really... Broner skipped how many fighters at 147 more deserving of this title fight? 9...9 top ten boxers in that division not name Paulie who actually have been grinding for a shot at the belt. You earn your shot and Broner has done nothing at all at 147 or even 140 to be getting this shot. The fact is GBP knows Paulie can't hold on to that title for long and don't want it going into the hands of another promoter..nothing else and nothing more. Broner may be talented but this is as much bullshhhh as placing Khan at #2. Stop trying to hype this kid up, when he fights the people who will really test him we can talk and off the top of my head there are at least 5 people he should be fighting at 140 who are more deserving of this shot at 147 than he is.

Default Broner by TKO

I hate to admit it but this is an easy fight for Broner and it will lend a little more credibility to his resume. I hope Paulie makes it a fight though. Broner's arrogance in the ring gets him hit far too much. Gavin Rees showed all of Broner's faults within the first 4 rounds. Too bad Paulie's punches are like kittens wrapped in silk panties.

The only way Broner gets credit is if he stays at 147.... I hate boxers (won't say names, but you know who they are) that jump up in weight just to get an easy fight, then just go back down, because they don't want to defend the belt at the same weight with better opponents . Not going for anyone
