Post Comments Thread For: Insider Notebook: Arreola, Rigondeaux's Win, More

By Robert Morales - Wearing a form-fitting t-shirt, Chris Arreola almost looked svelte Tuesday at a workout in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Perhaps that's why his promoter, Dan Goossen, is more excited about Arreola than he has been in a long time.

Arreola admittedly has had a history of poor training habits. It's something that has been written about again and again. But the way Arreola looked, and the confidence he is now exuding, is worth taking notice.

Heck, Goossen is so stoked, he spoke in perhaps exaggerated tones about his fighter who a week from Saturday - April 27 - will take on Bermane Stiverne (22-1-1, 20 KOs) in a heavyweight title elimination bout at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. (on HBO).

"I was talking to the guys with HBO today about it," Goossen said. "I was saying that he's a guy that single-handedly can bring the excitement back into the heavyweight division. Why? Because he's got all the elements that Mike Tyson had, OK? You wanted to see a Tyson fight to see how he could destroy someone, and Arreola's that type of fighter. [Click Here To Read More]

LOL at a heavyweight having an opinion about a real boxer like Rigo. LOL at someone ever caring about Arreola. Just LOL.

I've been saying this for a while now: boxing has changed a lot in the last few decades. There was a time when fans appreciated an exhibition of true boxing skill. Now everyone just wants to see a brawl. I'm sure this is linked to the decline of the sport.

"A style like Rigondeaux's would have gotten a lot of applause and accolades 30 years ago, OK? Because it's a science and he does it very, very well. But in today's world, fans are more discerning and not as forgiving and not as patient. They want to see knockdown, drag-outs if they can."

Why this double standard when it comes to Rigo?
I didn't read the same things regarding Andre Ward or B-Hop, for instance. They don't sell either -- but I didn't see pundits accusing Andre Ward's style. On the contrary.

They didn't show that also Donaire didn't want to exchange at all. Whenever Doianre pressed he received punches and didn't move forward really as he does. Also Donaire's fans are frustrated because he is so slow for Rigo and was not able to hit him

i dont understand whats going on, lets not forget who rigo was fighting, he was up against someone that could put him to sleep with one punch its not like rigo is going to fight that way all the time, and besides i found the fight very entertaining, and arum talking like that is not helping rigos stock its almost like he doesnt want him to get any bigger. Does any one know rigo contractual obligations to top rank because i know he's also signed to someone else i believe,

A lot of the new people to boxing want to see a fight, not the technical aspects of boxing. On the fighters end, it pays to learn the science, especially the hit and not get hit part. mayweather, hopkins, are good examples of getting paid and staying relatively healthy with a defensive style.

Cool Arreola = fat ass Rigondeaux = legend

c'mon arreola i was kinda happy when i heard you were training harder but then you started hatin on Rigondeaux.......c'mon mayne you should train with Rigondeaux and learn to take this serious and not be all fat and **** as if we boxing fans wanna see fat heavyweights in the ring all the time, 30 years ago heavyweights weren't suppose to be fat, and I can't believe Arum is hatin on Rigondeaux, if I was Rigondeaux I'd go with Mayweather promotions, **** if Ishe Smith got his first title shot and now J'Leon Love is on the undercard of a PPV fight **** you know Mayweather would treat you right boy

Default Rigondeaux

I don't get all the hate that's going Rigondeaux's way. I personally enjoyed the fight and am looking forward to watching him fight again. I know that I can't be the only person who can appreciate the skills that were displayed last Saturday night. Rigondeaux was able to make a special fighter like Donaire look like an amateur. If you're a boxing fan and you are looking forward to watching Rigondeaux's next fight write in. I'm sure that not everyone out there is hating.
