The realistic answers are either an asteroid like the KT strike event 65 million years ago - which causes total destruction - wiping out so much of us, and causing a collapse in the food chain, a prolonged ice age etc.

Or a huge nuclear war could also create havoc and a nuclear winter - but no African country has nukes or holds a strategic spot, so Africa should survive, damaged by fallout but survive.

My money's on an asteroid strike.

The odds of that are 1 time in the Earth's lifespan. So very minor. Asteroid strikes (big ones) seem to happen every hundred million years or so.
