lacy was terrible. he had no skills or fighting IQ and very little physical ability apart from brute strength and a good chin.

slow hands, slowest feet i ever seen, terrible footwork, terrible arsenal of punches including no jab, terrible precision, no timing, terrible sense of distance, no ability to use angles at all, no headmovement at all and an embarrassing lack of defense in general, no ability to make adjustments, wide puncher, extremely limited ability to set punches up.. etc..

all he could do was plod forward and swing wide left hooks and overhand rights against stationary targets. literally, thats it!

he was indeed a bum. just a big strong guy who looked good (to mainstream fans) knocking out guys who couldnt walk and chew bubble gum at the same time.

Alot of fight fans from The United States Of America jumped on this hype train which was subsequently derailed by UK citizen, Joe Calzaghe.

Ok. If I copy a page of that and mail it to you so you physically had it in your hand to wank to, would you go away?
brilliant post. perfectly handled, sir.

yeah.

imo, it's silly to count pre-fight hype as too significant a factor in assessing the worth of a W, anyway. who had Lacy beaten, what had he proven, what qualities had he demonstrated, those are the criteria we should be referring to.

let's say Joe had been a huge underdog, for the sake of argument. if guy A is unduly favoured, how much extra credit can we give guy B for upsetting some odds that were laughably skewed to begin with?

Joe doesn't deserve a lot of credit simply on Lacy being favored. The sportsbooks were wrong, the bettors were wrong, and a ton of fans were wrong. Lacy ended up being a poor fighter and was built on hype. Just because you are hyped or favored to win doesn't mean you are any good.

If Lacy went on to do good things, fine, give Joe credit with a good win but Lacy ended up as a sh1t fighter. And there's no way in hell you are going to try to talk me into the idea that Lacy would of been good if he never faced Joe Calzaghe. Calzaghe has never ruined anyone but his win against Hopkins looks solid.

calzaghe's "win" against hopkins ruined calzaghe. he knew he lost and it drained all his confidence and forced him into retirement.
