not taking anything away from marquez but his fighting style only works against pressure fighters, without 'em, he's just another boring counter puncher who fights on the back foot

Everyone saying JMM would beat Cotto is crazy. Cotto is way too strong for JMM. And he's not wreckless, not does he make the insane amount of technical mistakes Pac does. Cotto performed well against Mayweather. And JMM is basically a poor man's Floyd. I think JMM would outbox Cotto early. But towards the middle of the fight, I think Cotto's pressue and body work would start to wear on the smaller JMM and stop him in the late rounds. Plus, I don't think JMM has the power to keep Cotto honest and off him.

I'm assuming(which I should not do)Cotto can make 147lb in good form..Which I would expect if he signs the contract..But if all Cotto did was apply pressure I could Cotto lose easy..That's going right into Marquez's game..Cotto would have to use his(underrated)jab and a bit of movement..Which won't be easy giving Cotto's stamina issues..I say this is a pretty even fight,Cotto's not what he use to be either remember..

I also believe Mayweather fought Cotto in a fashion which gave Cotto tons of openings..Mayweather fought Cotto super aggressive and really just brawled with him...Mayweather provided very lil movement which was strange for May..All in all,I would not take much from that fight with Mayweather anyway..Marquez has a totally different style and presents a whole new set of problems for Cotto then Mayweather did...

Marquez needs to stop playing he knows damn well hes going to fight pac, 70% of his career is about pac. There are no other opponents for marquez...maybe bradley?

Marquez vs Floyd 2 = boring, plus mayweather already schooled him

I agree about JMM vs Cotto, but that? Are all counterpunchers just poor man's Floyd? Floyd is risk averse and JMM is not, their wholes styles are built around that

Thought that was Adrien Broner. However,
if Marquez is a broke mans Floyd, it has never
felt so rich to be a poor man.

I think your incorrect. I think Marquez has more
than enough power to hurt Cotto. Cotto could
not hurt Pacquiao in his prime. Marquez did in all
three fights and very obviously the forth. I am
more than willing to bet that Juan Manuel Marquez
can hang with this past prime Cotto power if he could
with a prime Pacquiao. Pac could not pressure Marquez,
I do not think any one fighter has ever pressured
Marquez effectively, at least not effectively enough to beat
him. Marquez does not have stamina issues and is just
too intelligent for Cotto. Even size wize, how big did Cotto
look when he fought Pacquiao? Not significantly larger. How
big does Marquez look compared to Pacquiao? Around the
same size. I do not really think Cotto has that much size on
Marquez.

While Cotto did better than Marquez at creating a more
entertaining bout with Money May, we have to admit
that Money was fighting a crowd pleasing fight, hence
making him some what more vulnerable. You can watch
both the fights and also see that Cotto took plenty of
more hard shots from Money than Marquez.

Cotto would have about 10lbs fight night, about 1.5 divisions. He'd also be by far the best win on JMM's resume, after Pac. If you look at JMM's last couple of solid wins besides Pac (Diaz, Kats, Casa), it doesn't look so rosy for his prospects vs Cotto.

Here are his four options if he is to fight and really, the list is only this long:

1) Pacquiao at 147
2) Cotto at 147
3) Broner at 140 (he'll be available soon, anyway)
4) Khan at 147
everybody else is locked up with a fight. These are his only four viable options, and since Arum is now pretty much promoting him, Broner + Khan look like they're unlikely options to say the least. That leaves Pacquiao and Cotto. Marquez is hinting he's not interested in fighting Pacman. Cotto will soon emerge as the favorite to land this fight, at 147.
