Also getting the government to promote buying firearms, and introducing new legislation is not a 'free market solution'.
The Monarchy brings a lot of income through tourism so it pays it's own fair share really. I'm not a monarchist, but here in Scotland we get a lot of tourism when the Queen is in her residence up here, and i'm sure it's the same for London. Pressure groups funding politicians in the US is a much worse problem then a powerless Monarchy.

As for the proposals by the TS, I guess it'd appeal to the right-wing of your country. It'd create MASSIVE problems for those with Liberal, left-leaning or moderate views who don't want to see guns everywhere. It'd make society just as divisive if not worse.

It'd harm the economy as people who go for family holidays may not want to take their kids to a country where guns are visible to everyone including children. More than 4.5 million Britons visit the United States every year, spending approximately $14 billion. A lot of that is family holidays. I don't speak for everyone, though personally, I spend a lot of time in the US as my girlfriend is American, and i'd flat out refuse to move there if I had to see a gun every second of the day. They are awfully frightening for someone who is used to having a feeling of safety here in the UK.

I guess it's just a social thing. The rest of the world recognises the US is home to a fair few people with these right-wing views, yet these people fail to recognise there are people who think differently, and aren't necessarily wrong. To me, carrying a gun around seems awfully outdated and barbaric. If you feel it necessary to carry a gun to feel safe, then your society needs some serious restructuring. The government really needs to step in there, which you can see in the UK and Europe. But if you're brought up to believe and think guns are just a way of life, it's hard to do anything about it. My prediction is that guns will very slowly and gradually be phased out of fashion, like what happened a few hundred years ago in other places. Obviously it'll be slower in certain places.

Interesting topic, but like someone said before I couldn't really tell how serious this thread was. I'll be shocked if it was actually pretty serious, though I mean if you genuinely call yourself a Capitalist (I don't know you personally, just what comes across from your profile on this thread) and are proud of it enough to call yourself one, then you've probably been brought up in a place where this gun thing is normal hence the right-wing view.

Maybe you're taking the piss out of Capitalism

And to top it off, decriminalize competition. If two people agree to face each other....and one gets killed, that person doesn't go to jail for it if a contract was signed. Pretty Free Market type stuff to me.
So the government should have absolutely no hand in the economy... unless they are supporting something that you support?

There are benefits to the monarchy, tourism is one, having a head of state who can perform a lot of the more menial tasks of the job without it biting into their real work is another. If the monarchy truly is profitable, let them run as a private enterprise, and elect a president to fill the roles of the Queen, pay them less than £36million a year and you are saving money

In my view it represents a defunct system that is leaching money from out of our pockets, not enough for people to get angry about, but still £36,000,000 a year. Money that could be going to improving schools hospitals anything. There was also a story run a few weeks back about how any policy that affects the queen, the royal family, or the crown estates is passed on to the monarchy for amendments and scrutiny. This for me oversteps her mark as a ceremonial monarch.

How did I miss this gem of a post.

No, no.....it's what it says about your country symbolically that is the problem. And that symbolism is directly translated into the kind of Statism you have and the citizenry that supports it. Over here, we don't want a powerless Monarch, we want a powerless democratically elected Politician of a Republic. Unfortunately they're not powerless, so we will settle for elected politicians.

Not at all. Mr. Ring Wing is not forcing Mr. Left Wing to carry a gun. As a matter of fact, he is not forcing him to do or be part of anything. The same cannot be said vica versa, as all of Mr. Left wings ideas involve the force of govt and central planning to get us all to do something, pay for something or be part of some new ponzi scheme program.

You are mistaking the U.S. for some second tier country whose economy depends on Tourism. And besides...we practically have 50 countries domestically. When someone from the East Coast visits the West and vica versa, that's tourism. We don't depend on Anti-Gun Collectivists from abroad spending their Euro's on our economy.

Not at all. Now....having monarchs is outdated. A gun is a modern tool designed for more efficient killing without having to get your hands dirty. And as long as we have guns it's unlikely that we will have a Braveheart type of bloody battle. Now you guys with your knives....I don't know about.

Quote:

It's not a fashion statement....it's a modern day weapon. Some use it for defensive purposes, some use it for offense and murder. And in between, some use it for target practice, sports and other entertainment purposes. Personally, I'd rather put a bullet into a intruder with a knife, then having to stab him...even if the intruder himself didn't have a gun.

Guns aren't going anywhere and will be improved upon like smartphones.
