But not with Bond. The PG Melodrama and the charming, ladies man chauvinism made that character a hit. The fact that he never gets phased no matter in what jam he is in; always staying cool, calm and collected. You don't deviate from that because you feel it's gotten stale. If it has gotten stale, then stop making them. But apparently not; Skyfall was a success money wise and the criteria for judging has changed. They will make another one with CGI action that will compete with the latest "Die Hard" movie.

I saw no difference between this and the latest Taken sequel, other than Liam being a parent.

I thought skyfall felt a lot like the older ones, exotic locales, over the top villain, sexy women, etc.

sure it's more serious, but that's just evolution of what the public wants, and from the reviews to the box office take it obviously was succesful.

sure there's inflation etc, but the fact is the film has almost made a billion dollars of PROFIT

It doesn't matter what year it was written if the Director's vision and execution is the same as of the people who make Die Hard, Taken, Mission Impossible and the likes.

It's a miracle they at least somewhat came back to what James Bond used to be. In the previous Bond movie, I don't think he ever said the "My name is Bond, James Bond" catch phrase once. Just a guy who happens to be called James Bond participating in all sorts of interesting stunts, coming out alive.

Nobody is denying that, but I can downplay it a bit. Rockerfeller if adjusted for inflation is the richest man of all times. In his time he wasn't known as having a 50 Billion Dollars (I think) net worth, the way Bill Gates is. But if compared to the purchasing power of the money during that time, to the purchasing power at present, Rockerfeller was six or seven times richer than Gates ever was. $663.4 billion net wroth in 2007 dollars, according to List of wealthiest historical figures,

What about amount of tickets sold in total Vs amount of theater tickets sold in the past? Now maybe you can still consider it an accomplishment that someone is willing to pay more to watch it than they did "In the old days", but it's still not expensive enough to be a liability.

It was a good film. Not as good as Casino Royale which probably one of my favorite ever Bond films.

It was definitely an improvement on that Quantum of Solace pill of ****.

bardem was alright even if he was a joker rip-off, but the rest of the film was bollocks. daniel craig is a personality vacuum.

That 3rd Bond, like the 3rd Batman - seemed to feel the need to make another long epic, drawn out dramatic movie, which made them lose there edge a little imo.

Still very good no doubt. But for me from the two trilogies, its clear regardless of financial crap, Casino Royale, and Dark Knight were clearly the best.

A sequel, or 3rd release often benefit from people hearing great things about the first one or two, being recommended, then concluding oh I must see the next one. Doesn't mean they are the best.
