Abner Mares vs. Rafael Marquez

How would you feel about Abner Mares making his Featherweight debut vs. Rafael Marquez?

I think this would be a great fight for Abner Mares to test the waters in the Featherweight division. If he beats Rafael Marquez then that's a great name to add to his resume. If he only wins a decision then maybe he should drop back down to Super Bantamweight, but if he K.O.s Marquez then maybe that'll warrant his hopes at 126.

It's not too bad of a fight for Rafael Marquez either. Marquez would be making more money in this fight than any other fight that's out there for him. And if he beats Mares then that would definitely open the door for an even bigger pay day for him. If he loses then he should probably retire, but at least he would go out losing to an undefeated fighter in his prime.

I think that Abner Mares vs. Rafael Marquez makes sense for both fighters given where they are at in their respective careers. I think Mares vs. Marquez would do good numbers at the gate at Staples Center or Honda Center. This fight might just be a showcase fight for Mares, but I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being a war.
