Art and music, I mean speak for itself. There are many geniuses that have changed the world with those two things.
If you erase Beethoven from history you lose a couple songs at the most,
You erase Von Neumann your entire fcking computer is gone! I would rank 1000 engineers before a single musical artist.

Very true. There was no clear line between Science and what we call Philosophy today. Infact up until some time in the 19th century Science was still referred to as Philosophy.

Funny that he mentions the importance of Von Neumann in the same thread in which he dismissed Aristotle, the father of Formal Mathematical Logic (Yes all of that was classified as Philosophy back then Joe).

If you want to champion Aristotle specifically for his mathematical contributions Im all for it. Its the circle jerking over morals, ethics and existence that Im against.

I'm pretty much with you on the subject of Ethics but...

Do you know what formal Mathematical Logic is? It was that "circle jerking" over existence that lead to formal logic in the first place. For example two of it's most basic principles are the law of identity and the law of non-contradiction; both are basically propositions about existence, and by extension, so is the rest of Formal Logic.

Furthermore it was Socrates and Plato's Philosophical thought that lead to the modern rationalistic view of the world and the scientific method.
