get a $100 used sks if you want to hunt deer short to mid range with a 7.62x39mm. sks accuracy, performance, price > ak

if you want an accurate mid range .30 cal auto?

buy an ar-15 type and buy a 7.62x40mm WT barrel.

wilson tactical has come out with new guns, barrels, ammo for their new cartridge.

it's a .223/5.56mm (AR-15/ M-16) case with .30 cal bullets.

basically 7.62x39mm performance in a AR-15 platform.

just change the barrel. mag, action, lower, upper all stay the same.

7.62x54mm ammo is hella cheap surplus.

and i heard dragunovs are far more accurate than kalashnikovs.

just what i heard/read though. no personal experience with dragunovs myself.
