Default What's the purpose of weight classes when fighters rehydrate to a higher weight?

Fairly still new to boxing, so why is it that fighters are set to fight at say a WW fight and weigh in at like 145, but come fight night they could be like 160.

Why is it allowed? Why have a weight class?

Originally weigh ins were on the day of the fight. There were two problems with this:

1). If a guy didn't make weight, and the fight was cancelled, a lot of people would lose a lot of money (people who already bought the tickets etc., the networks).

2). Safety. People were still cutting weight to make weight despite having the weigh in on the same day. The problem is that if you're dehydrated and you're taking punishment to your head, it massively increases the chances of suffering brain damage or death. It's much safer to fight 24 hours later as your body will be fully rehydrated.

On the otherhand, there are obviously drawbacks such as guys outweighing there opponents by 15-20 pounds. Now the IBF, I believe, has a measure in title fights that won't allow a fighter to rehydrate more than 10 pounds. The WBC recently implemented a somewhat similar rule where a fighter cannot rehydrate more than 10% of their body weight.

Even if fighters rehydrate it still ensures some level of fairness as Wlad for example would no way be able to boil himself down to any weight that Floyd for example could step on the scale at.

ive said this several times already,

catch weight criticism are irrelevant considering fighters get 24 rehydration.

fighters who moved up in weight during 24 rehydration are more impressive than fighters who moved up in weight before 24 rehydration.

when henry armstrong did his weight class thing welters were welters, lightweights where lightweights etc...

when pac did it, welters on friday, junior middleweights and middleweights on fight night.

You dont know what your talking about its not just water , with elite fighters already pushing their low weight limit , CWs change your muscle mass while training , in other words to make a lighter weight than your used to you train lighter right through , its not just water going in and out with these CW bouts , what hurts you is the less muscle mass as well as mineral balance not being right , the result is less snap , less power , slower reaction time , heavy legs , a lot goes on in the body when your under your individual weight threshold .

Now going up in weight does none of this , it makes your stronger and slightly slower .

Both have bookends that are for the individual, its not throw a blanket over the numbers for all people .

Catchweights are not irrelevant. Name me the big name title fights that had a lgitimate catchweight fight attached to it.
