Frank Warren Blasts American Boxing

Seth Mitchell had been touted as the saviour of heavyweight boxing in the US. However, as I’d predicted, he was exposed as another charlatan last weekend in Atlantic City, hammered in two rounds by the very average and significantly lighter Johnathon Banks.

I don’t doubt that Mitchell, a former gridiron footballer, trains hard but he wasn’t even an average talent and was outrageously overhyped. The Yanks still refuse to concede that they are no longer the sport’s superpower – not just in the heavyweight division but right across boxing.

Other than very few Yanks, that honour has passed to Eastern Europe. Fact.Fighters there might lack the flamboyance of some of the Americans but they more than compensate for that in hunger and fundamental basic technique.

I want HBO to read this. We don't want no damn "Seth Mitchells" on our TV HBO. Give exposure to exciting skillful fighters that are deserving, not some bum heavyweight that's tagged as "America's HW boxing savior"

Pretty much, and I especially agree with the bold. Even Martinez was left out in the dust while Bradley-Alexander was being painted as this huge mega fight. There's so many more fighters that they left out in order to air and build up some other crappy fighters.

Eastern European dominance in boxing has to rank up there with some of the biggest myths permeated throughout boxing message board community. As is the myth of American being "passed up" by the international scene.

Out of the 17 weight divisions, there's only one Eastern European boxer that is regarded as the #1 boxer (and/or lineal champ) in his respective division. Compared to about 7 weight divisions where a U.S. boxer is the #1 fighter in their division (and/or lineal champ).

175, thats Dawson, so theres 1 US champ.
168, obviously Ward, theres 2.
154/147, Floyd can't be in two divisions at once. Ill put him at 154 right now. Theres 3.
140, Garcia is the Ring champ, though not seen as the number 1. Theres 4. He's only on this list because he has the Ring belt.
