There was a time when HBO made it a point to always have the lineal heavyweight king under contract, while showcasing most of the top contenders on somewhat of a regular basis.

Those days are long gone. Depending on your viewpoint, it’s either a rare treat or an occasional disappointment whenever the network airs a heavyweight fight these days. In recent years, a heavyweight on HBO means Al Haymon is in his corner – leading us to this weekend’s co-feature.

In fairness, the network isn’t in the Seth Mitchell business solely based on his management. The former high school and college football standout has been fun to watch in the ring the moment he turned pro. Two previous appearances on HBO have shown that, taking care of business early against Timur Ibragimov and surviving an early scare to get rid of Chazz Witherspoon earlier this year.

both guys are fringe contenders & this is obviously the biggest fight for both guys. mitchell has good wins over ibragimov & witherspoon(C+) while banks has win over travis walker & a draw with jason gavern. i'd give the mitchell the edge in competition faced & think he has learned his craft quite well considering he is a late starter. banks held the NABF title but vacated it for this fight with mitchell. he chose to vacant it instead of fighting his mandatory tony grano(NABF champion & #4 in WBC). i still have lots of questions about banks at HW. all the other former CWs who moved up around the time he did(after adamek fight)have had pretty good success while he has fought a few decent JM & guys like saul montana & marcel zeller. i just haven't seen much but he has been training & sparring in the klitschko camps & has been around steward his whole career so he must have learned something. this is both guys big chance but in the end i see mitchell's power being the difference. he is a finisher when he has a wounded opponent. i say mitchell with a stoppage somewhere in rd 6-8...

Im not sold on Mitchell but I dont think Banks has it in him to win it. Dude is getting paid 10x more being Wlad's trainer and the only advantage he has is watching how Wlad works being around him all his life, Banks is not in great shape either.

I want Banks to win but my brain says Mitchell is the only logical choice, but this is boxing baby, you never know what can happen

Banks looked out of shape at the weigh in, to me at least. Looking at how he looked in other fights, he looked a chubby.
