Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez Will Return on April 27th in Argentina

WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (50-2-2, 28KOs) will return to the ring on April 27th in Argentina, confirmed his adviser Sampson Lewkowicz to BoxingScene.com. The fight, which HBO will televise, is still being worked on. There is no set opponent and there is no set venue. Lewkowicz, and promoter Lou DiBella, are still considering three potential venues - including Luna Park and La Plata stadium, which holds close to 55,000 people.

Rumours are flying round that one of those names is Martin Murray, anyone know who else it might be?

      I'm hearing it's a top 5 middleweight but I don't know according to who

      if it's Ring you got

GGG, Pirog, Sturm and Geale (I didn't include Chavez)

      if it's WBC you got

Domenico Spada, Macklin, Murray, Taylor, and Fernando Guerrero.

personally I bet Murray will be raised to mandatory status and Martinez will fight him.

I'm a Martinez fan but I see a Martin Murray fight as a huge step back.

too bad GBP didn't want to risk Canelo

It will be Murray, GGG will be fighting at MSG or Bordwalk in Jan, not enough time, Martinez KO's Murray late, UD's GGG lop sided

good,he deserves to fight over there and hopefully a lot of his fans show up,,,now this means he wont be one of the guys who will face canelo in may,i think it will be the cotto/trout winner, hope so,i really don't care for mayweather anymore, moneywise yes but he just doesn't fight often and is kind of slowing down a bit, cotto will be a good fight in may(to me cotto wins easily, trout isn't any good)

Martinez's team said 100% it is not Murray right now, although he might be considered. They have a few names they are looking at. Why would Murray pay the WBA money to fight for a title in November, to then fight a WBC champion?

Yea you are right, Chavez will get dispatched in the next fight and will have two losses, ruining his marketability

Murray is ranked #3 by the WBC. if Macklin at #2 is fighting Chavez then it's possible that WBC would make Murray the mandatory. why not take the fight if it's offered if you are Murray.
