Saturday's controversial cruiserweight fight between WBO champion Marco Huck and challenger Firat Arslan generated a huge television rating for ARD. The network reports that 3.36 million TV viewers were watching Huck and Arslan trade punches for twelve rounds. Huck won a unanimous decision over twelve, with scores of 115-111-, 115-113 and 117-111 at the Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

Huck threw 200 more punches compared to arslan? Either these punch stats are as bogus as the decision or I have to rewatch the fight blindfolded.

Arslan was robbed. If ARD did the punch stats it is definately faked. Shame on ARD for supporting Sauerland over all these years with these robberies. Huck is the younger fighter and has more fights left so ARD wants to promote him for future events. So sad for boxing. I talked to so many boxing experts this weekend and nobody had Huck ahead on the score cards.

UK, Ukraine, Russia, Japan and pretty much most of Eastern Europe are some of the others that come to mind - Argentina too. Japan is such an underrated market.

Only thing about the UK is that it's restricted by being on channel 5 and Sky.

not surprising
the bigger and lower weights get more love outside the US
but Huck didn't look all that impressive
if he's trying to build momentum for another HW shot, he flopped
he might still get a chance because of the HW dearth
Arslan should be given a rematch first though

Japan boxing matches get something like 15 million viewers a fight and frequently come up top in sports in the country these days. At the moment boxing in Japan nets bigger ratings than MMA, kickboxing and even Sumo.

That's no monster TV rating by German standards at all, even if you exclude the Klitschkos with their 10 million and more viewers.

Marco Huck had 6.3 million viewers for his heavyweight debut against Povetkin, and over 5 million tuned in when he was fighting Brian Minto. In fact, Saturday's 3.36 million are Huck's lowest TV rating since he has become WBO champion! Have a look at these stats:
