By Jake Donovan - Frankie Gomez begins his redemption tour Saturday evening in Anaheim, California. It's not often that a 20-year old unbeaten prospect has to win back fans, but Gomez managed to fall off track after an 11-month ring absence largely due to poor discipline in and out of the ring.
A troubled 2012 saw the East LA prospect get arrested twice and briefly serve time. Gomez (12-0, 9KO) insists he has learned the error of his ways, even surfacing at Freddie Roach's fame Wild Card Gym to put in work.
