I feel Rigondeaux is most certainly going to have to work a lot harder than hes used to too keep this guy off him. Poonsawat isn't one of these pressure fighters of today who just follow you around, wrecklessly, swinging for the fences, he applies intelligent pressure.
100% agree. I'm watching the bouts that you recommended (already watched the Cordoba and Dunne fights). Like all good brawlers/pressure fighters, he knows how to force his opponent into a fight. He also has some dog in him, he'll grind you down anyway he has to. He also has a respectable inside game and likes to throw to the body. Against Cordoba, he kept throwing the straight to the body followed by the left hook. I'm certain that he'll have that combo in his repertoire when he fights Rigo.

I think he'll test Rigo's endurance/stamina/toughness/discipline/punch resistance. Rigo might be forced to show if he has an inside game.

I stayed up til 6am researching and watching whatever I could find of his, and yes I am excited. I didn't notice til yesterday that Poonsawat is #2 in the Ring rankings, and he's been there for a long while. Matter of fact, out of the 178 fighters that are part of the Ring rankings, only 13 of them have spent a longer amount of time in their division than Poonsawat. He's been there for 280 weeks, so this is a fool-proof match-up. He stands to gain much credit if he beats a fighter of Poonsawat's caliber, and it perfectly sets up a match with Donaire. Kudos to his team for getting him the opportunity, cuz I was getting worried that he'd be fighting someone who has a "name" or past-prime/faded fighter instead of fighting the "best" at his division.

Poonsawat is going to force Rigondeaux to get out of his defensive mind-set. He'll have to open up to get Poon's respect, sitting back and boxing might not always be the best option.

When he was young back in cuba he used to go hard in the early rounds and get the early knockout but with time he become more of the defence specialist that he is now...he allways been very accurate puncher tho...

I think inside fighting is going to be very crucial in this fight, more than anything else. I don't think Rigo can keep Poon on the outside for the entire night, so he's going to have show what's he capable of in a phone booth.

Rigo have not an inside game..he wait for the punch to come, counter it, then step to the side...sometimes when ppl with hight volumen punches for round fight rigo make to many mistakes in the way in and rigo make them pay..then they don't want to come forward..that also happen in donaire fights..lol I think that is not the same to come forward full of pain..

i feel like poonsawat's style should be tailor made for a hard and fast counter puncher like rigo..but if poonsawat can take guillermo's punches and get on the inside and do his work then I can see rigo having alot of trouble. also poonsawat can punch and I hope we get to see him really test rigo's chin. this is definitely rigo's best opponent yet better than cordoba and ramos...i think rigo can win this by decision or late TKO..but i wouldn't mind seeing poonsawat pull off the upset considering donaire vs poonsawat will be another good match-up.
