All elections from now until a major change in US society occur will be like this. The country is split in half, it's a silent civil war. Despite this, ironically the political parties are not as far apart on the political spectrum as the actual citizens. Both parties are highly conservative compared to the breadth shown in most nations.

Doesn't really matter as much at this point. Pundits and voters both will evaluate it as a tie overall no matter what happens. The key was the first one, which he punted and allowed the race to even.
