Post Comments Thread For: Hunter Discusses Khan Rumors, Ward-Martinez, More

Following his disastrous TKO loss at the hands of Danny Garcia on July 14th in Las Vegas, former junior welterweight champion Amir Khan seemed to sense a change was in order for his career.

Still just 25 years old but having suffered his second consecutive defeat, Khan felt that his trainer Freddie Roach was a little too preoccupied with the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to fully focus on his needs and decided to end their union earlier this month.

Reports later surfaced that Khan would be working with the respected Virgil Hunter, known best for his work with super middleweight champion Andre Ward. [Click Here To Read More]

All the training in the world by the best trainers on Earth will not cure Kahn of his greatest weakness........his chin.

his chin isnt the problem. since moving up to 140 hes only been hurt by punchers. he doesnt have a great chin but it isnt bad either, its average. it doesnt hold up to clean shots from big hitters but its not supposed to, thats how those hitters got their reputation to begin with.

the real problem is he gets caught too often with big shots and bcuz hes so offensive minded he sometimes doesnt see them coming. unless youre marvin hagler thats gonna get you into trouble and thats what happened.

also like hunter said its the way he responds to taking big shots, he doesnt know how to buy time. if he really did have a bad chin he wouldnt have been able to soak up the punishment he did in the 4th round against garcia before finally being stopped.

once khan learns a little defense, use a jab,and stop fighting like a amateur. he'll be right back in the mix.weak chin or not. he has the skill. and one other thing. he needs to stay away from the twitter fights.

This is spot on. For some reason these so called PROFESSIONAL boxers react the wrong way when they get hurt. They need to clinch, back up or take a knee. Hell take a page from Chico's book and spit that damn mouth piece out. Recently it cost Sillakh, Khan and Molina. Idk why their first reaction when hurt is wild swinging and exchanging...

That's just the mentality of a fighter man. If you get caught you wanna get the other guy back. And the best defense is a good offense. So they say.
