  • Drug testing in boxing - Nevada, California - major issues

I was trying to find out about the drug tests administered after the Martinez-Chavez Jr fight (still looking) and instead found out about who conducts the tests & a little about the methadology.

The drug tests are carried out in Nevada by the NSAC (thanks to Reported! for the pointer) headed by Keith Kizer, an individual who:-
Keith Kizer is a man who says that testosterone usage for muscular fighters should not be viewed as a scarlet letter. The reality is that there isn’t a bigger drug enabler in combat sports today than Keith Kizer, the man who grants hall passes to fighters so that they can use testosterone, the base chemical of anabolic steroids.

This article should be read by anyone who has an interest in keeping combat sports clean, and there should be pressure put on Nevada & California authorities to remove such individuals from their positions, as they are clearly & seemingly quite openly attempting to loosen restrictions on already very lax standards, & in Kiser's case, openly looking to give combat sports fighters a pass on major drug abuse
"He actually uses the word entitled or entitlement when discussing fighters using testosterone."
This is a serious danger to fighters, & as the article points out, opens the door to major lawsuits.

On a more recent note to boxing fans, this also adds concern to fairness regarding a number of fights - Lamont Peterson passes in California but is busted under the more stringent testing in New York.

The man likely to of done the testing for the Martinez-Chavez Jr bout is Dr. Timothy Trainor, who apparently "is an orthopedic doctor" ie. bones & tissues, not someone who is qualified to be conducting drug tests...

Regarding some of the background regarding tests for Julio Chavez jr, I recommend people read this:

The information about Kizer & his cohorts put it in an even worse light..
