I'm 30 and if you saw me you'd think I was 18. Good genes I guess. Its always been hard to injure myself and I've always been quick to recover. My metabolism is through the roof considering I have only gained 20 lbs since high school and I eat like a pig. Also I can surf a 4 hour session in the morning, go to work and later surf another 4 hour session. I've been thinking about taking PEDS or HGH for training purposes, I want to start paddling in to 12ft+ waves

Surgery only if you have to, under extreme conditions. The doctor should of given you back exercises to do and stick with. Make them a routine. Do the extra things like practice good posture(like when on the Comptr), get needed rest, and still stay active(normal physcal activity not heavy lifting).

But I don't suffer from any aches and pains etc.

Doing yard work shouldn't be giving you that much grief, I mean you have builders in their 40's, 50's, even 60's who would lift more than that.

I think it's either A) your pre existing injuries or B) you aren't lifting properly.

If you lift through your legs, then your legs might ache but your back shouldnt

I hear you. I've done the same with garden work. I didn't listen to my back though and just tried to work through it. I shouldn't have done that....

So if you want advice then just stop when your back hurts. Listen to your body. There is a another day after this.

I'm the same age as you and I get a bad lower back as well ( i'm 30 in 9 days ) A few stretches you should know of and you'll be ok I think .Lifting is all about technique that's how I hurt mine in the first place picking up a slab at work that was supposed to be a 2 man lift .

1 .Hamstrings need to be stretched and flexible
2. Shoulders want to be pinned back
3 .Good lower back stretch is just lie on your front as if your going to do a push-up and raise your torso from the floor .This is the best one .
I hold all stretches about 30 secs but these are the best ones for me ..

I've had some painfull days and the doc says it's nothing but it goes away .The most it's kept me out of training is a few days .Do u know how to pin your shoulders back ? This makes a huge difference .It's just this only this is forward .Similar strectch on the shoulder blades only your arm goes to the back .You shoud beable to get your arm round to 12 oclock then look over and hold for 30 secs .Keep toes facing 6 oclock and legs together .

Once your back goes you're pretty much f**ked and I'm pretty sure you don't want to spend the next 40 or 50 years in agony. I'm speaking from experience. Hurt my back when I was 28 and had trouble to even walk for almost 2 years. At 35 my back is much better but it will never be the same again.

You might have just strained it and all will be OK again, or you might have just pushed it that step to far and now started the journey of continuos lower back pain.

I've been doing deadlifts once a week for years under the hope it would always give my lower back some resiliency, not heavy weight, only 100kg for around 12 reps a few times, but hopefully just enough to make sure it's used to loads so it doesnt give way. (so far so good...touches wood)

They say once your lower back does go you hardly ever get it back to the way you once did. Time to start eating glucosamine to help with any arthritis or inflammation and rest rest rest for a few weeks.
