In the quarterfinal OL 2004 Ward was fighting Southpaw Makarenko who won a bronze in 1998 as a heavyweight at the 1998 European championships and dominated light heavyweight between 2001 and 2006.
He won gold medals at the 2001 World Amateur Boxing Championships, the 2002 European Amateur Boxing Championships as a heavyweight the 2003 World Amateur Boxing Championships where he beat Rudolf Kraj. and the 2004 European Amateur Boxing Championships in Pula, Croatia. He also participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics as a light heavyweight, his results were: 1st round bye Defeated Yoan Pablo Hernández (Cuba) 30-18 Lost to Andre Ward (United States) 16-23 In 2006 he beat highly touted newcomer Artur Beterbiev but lost to him in 2007, preventing him from participating in the World Championships in Chicago. The guy was HUGE and had dominated everything. In this fight Ward against all odds beat him, despite the other guy physically being hugly superior. Dawson should know that his size or style wont matter much, what he should be worried about is ward`s relentless ability to ajust and find a way to victory. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZV0-adTiwI Last edited by 110110110; 08-27-2012 at 02:43 PM. |
