Default Two questions :)

1. what's your views on having cereal for breakfast like special K or something like that? i don't really know it it's a good thing to do or not.

2. i've noticed that on protein shake labels and descriptions it often says something along the lines of ''for maximum benefit take one before workout and one after...'' etc etc. is that worth doing or is that a load of **** to get you to buy more? (currently i take on after)

thanks guys/girls

1. Cereals like special K are very healthy and good carbs if you use the energy up in training (you need carbs for energy).

2. Dunno about protein shakes, but yeah eating protein-rich foods - like eggs - before and after training seems to be the usual suggestion.

For protein, I like to make scrambled eggs (about 4 eggs) and mix it with a can of tuna and chopped cilantro. It's good on toast with butter

#1 What are you trying to do? Cereals are fine. To be realy picky some are highly processed so they have lots of sugar and salt but it's not a big deal. Whole grain is better, Oats are very good but boring.

#2 Load of BULLS#IT to me. This is an old marketing technique, think Shampoo was the first product to use it i.e instruction on bottle are repeat the process twice - this does nothing but suddenly your selling twice the product.

In general Protein powder is over-hyped, it's realy nothing special. Even the age old "must get protein into your system straight after workout" isn't realy proven. The fitness industry peddles a lot of crap.

I don't eat cereals though Special K is full of sugar, fairly high in sodium I believe. Better off with Weetabix or even better a proper meal & not sugar coated cardboard floating in milk.

Before a workout, have a balanced meal an hour or so before.

Yes you need protein post-workout, preferably whey, (I use Whey isolate) as well as fast acting carbohydrate such as Dextrose.

Next time you a nutrition/bodybuilding related question be sure to post your stats & goal as it will help.

Whilst I agree they do peddle a lot of crap & I mean a lot of crap, its taken post workout due to the absorption rate & the fact not many people can stomach a meal after a workout, I know I can't. More of a convenience thing I guess.

Easy, affordable way of getting the calories/protein/nutrients required.
