Two votes for Schaaf, then. So no doubt about it.
I read a biography of Baer several years ago, and remember the author criticizing Schaaf’s handlers for the way they matched him. He was brutally KO’d by Baer in the return, but wasn’t allowed any rest, which led to the fatal Carnera encounter.
Otherwise, the book was loaded with amusing stories. Baer was an entertainer inside the ring, but even more outside of it.
